Small Mammals

Our small mammal services run the gamut. Bunnies, ferrets, mice and guinea pigs all need different sorts of attention.

If cecal hypomotility (constipation) continues for long enough, the cecum will become impacted and eventually result in grave illness in the rabbit and affect the GI tract.
Wet tail (aka diarrhea) is said to be stress related, can be caught by other guinea pigs quickly and may result in death. Regular vet visits may help prevent this from occurring.
Houses with rodents commonly have rodent mites that will bite humans. Don’t worry, we can recommend pest control to prevent these infestations.

Birds

Parrots, canaries and other avian pets have very specialized needs. Good Shepherd Vet Hospital make sure you know the gender of your bird and can help with behavioral concerns.

Dr. I can perform corrective surgery on beaks, deformed by injuries or problems in the egg, so that your bird can eat properly and have a natural beak through its lifetime.
Look out for obsessive preening (thinning out the feathers too much) and any signs of sick-bird syndrome. This can be a sign of  an advanced stage illness.
Knowing what gender your bird is important because the different genders have different medical needs and issues.

Reptiles & Amphibians

Proper care of snakes, turtles, iguanas and other reptiles or amphibians has a lot to do with proper husbandry. The team at Good Shepherd will help you keep your cold blooded pet healthy throughout its long life.

For reptiles and amphibians their environment is extremely important. If not properly set up and maintained there can be serious injuries and diseases.
Many health issues that reptiles have can be caused by an improper environment. Good Shepherd can identify the root cause of your pet’s ailments and help you eliminate the issues and improve their overall health.
Because amphibian and reptilian wild food can not be simulated easily, it is very important that they get the necessary nutrients and stimulation that they would receive from wild food.
